Online pharmacy websites and software development are booming and are expected to improve the healthcare market at its best. So, with this, online pharmacy solution development companies are coming up with new technologies to better develop an online pharmacy solution that can improve patient experience and provide valuable services in the healthcare sector.

Recently, NHS GP practices have been offered free use of video consultation technology by a firm that produces a medicine order app.

Now Healthcare Group will offer its technology to GP practices as part of a free trial to help over-stretched NHS services. The partnership will launch with five unnamed NHS practices over the next two months, allowing practices to use Now Healthcare Group’s video consultation app – Now GP. Patients will likewise have the option of the organization's repeat medicine delivery application, Now Pharmacy.

Launched earlier this year, Now Pharmacy is a £1.5 million ‘super-hub’ digital pharmacy that aims to dispense and deliver up to 500,000 repeat medications every month. Now Pharmacy hopes to benefit those who suffer from long-term health conditions and require numerous medications, as well as those who struggle to travel to their pharmacy.

The service will be delivered through the Now Patient app, which sends medicine orders to a large medicine dispensing facility called Now Pharmacy. Both are owned by the Now Healthcare Group.

As part of the trial, GPs will use the Now Patient app to hold video consultations with registered patients. Following their consultation, patients will be asked if they would like Now Pharmacy to deliver any prescribed medicine.

Lee Dentith, chief executive and founder of Now Healthcare, told The Pharmaceutical Journal that patients will also be offered the option to have the app forward their medicine order to a local pharmacy as a ‘click-and-collect’. In this scenario, the local pharmacy will pick the order from their stock and claim NHS reimbursement as usual.

Dentith said that Now Healthcare “currently offers the click-and-collect service for all of our private medical insurance clients, and over 85% of the medicine orders we issue for acutes are dispatched to local community pharmacies”.

Chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s English Pharmacy Board Sandra Gidley, stated: “This model is an empowering combination of the utilization of technology while keeping up the interpersonal link between pharmacists and patients.

The recent results from John Lewis have provided a stark reminder that people are accessing services in different ways, but this would appear to be an interesting bridge between technology and the traditional.”

The online pharmacy market is estimated to be a fraction of that at Rs 700-800 crore but has been plagued by regulations.
